The FAI was delighted to welcome German Aero Club (Deutscher Aero Club e.V - DAeC) President Stefan Klett to the FAI Head Office in Lausanne, Switzerland earlier this month, on a visit that reinforced the strong ties between the Federation and its Active Member in Germany. 

While in Lausanne, Klett met with FAI President Bob Henderson, FAI Secretary General Susanne Schödel, and FAI Executive Director Jean-Claude Weber.

They discussed a number of topics, including FAI's and NAC's links to individual air sports persons, the current concept of Membership and Sporting Licences, and future opportunities to strengthen air sports from grass roots to global level. Also discussed were options concerning the future sustainability of FAI core income through membership subscriptions.

"We, the FAI, rely on our strong partner Germany," Henderson said. Klett and Henderson also agreed that the 2015 Braunschweiger Charter on aviation heritage should be upheld and that a meeting with the Mayor of Braunschweig would be beneficial to help secure the preservation of historic aircraft.

About DAeC

The German Aero Club is the umbrella organisation for air sports and general aviation in Germany. It represents the interests of approximately 100,000 pilots in the country, which has a long air sports tradition.

Initially founded in 1907, it was set up in its present format in 1950. The full list of air sports it represents includes gliding, powered flying, parachuting, ballooning, hang gliding, and paragliding.
