Taking off soon: The LeaseWeb Texel Airshow 2018!
Texel, the largest of the Wadden Islands in North Holland, the Netherlands is a natural gem known for its 30km of sandy beaches. But on Saturday August 4, all eyes will be on the skies as the Leaseweb Texel Airshow 2018 flies into town!
Now sponsored by official FAI partner Leaseweb, the event is held every three years and has been running since 1980, making this the 12th edition.
Participants in this year’s airborne extravaganza at Texel International Airport will include superfast fighter jets, retro passenger planes, and huge helicopters – many of which will be involved in jaw-dropping aerobatics displays.
Large crowds are expected to gather for this unique and colourful event, which boasts a diverse international mix of contemporary, historical, military and civil aircraft hailing from the 1930s to the present day.
The latest editions of the event attracted more than 20,000 spectators – and the 2018 Airshow is on track to welcome even more, with a large media presence and many aviation fans coming from outside the Netherlands to enjoy the spectacle.
About the event
The air show itself, which tells the story of aviation over the last almost 100 years, will run from 12.30 to 17.00.
Visitors who arrive between 10.00 and 12.30 can also take in the fascinating static show involving most of the aircraft and pilots taking part in the show.
The easiest way to reach the island of Texel is by ferry from Den Helder.
