General

Your privacy is important to FAI. We developed this Privacy Statement to provide you with information on how we process your personal data when you visit FAI websites, intranet or extranet, apply for a FAI sporting licence, apply for an international record or attend in FAI activities.

Other FAI websites, apps and products that do not include a link to this privacy statement and include a link to a different FAI privacy policy are governed by that privacy statement.

“Personal data” is information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.

Data collected when visiting FAI websites

To help analyze how you and other visitors navigate FAI websites, and compile aggregate statistics about site usage and response rates, we, with assistance from third-party analytics service providers, collect certain information when you visit our site. This information includes IP address, geographic location of the device, browser type, browser language, date and time of your request, time(s) of your visit(s), page views and page elements (e.g., links) that you click. We may use cookies, pixel tags, web beacons, clear GIFs or other similar tools on our site or in our email messages to assist us in collecting and analyzing such information. We use this information to provide better, more relevant content on our site, to measure the effectiveness of advertisements, to identify and fix problems, and to improve your overall experience on our site. We may also engage one or more third-party service providers to provide online advertisements on our behalf. They may use a pixel tag or other similar technology to collect information about your visits to sites, and they may use that information to send you targeted advertisements. If you do not want information collected through the use of these technologies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to automatically decline many of these technologies, or to be given the choice of declining or accepting them.

Analytics services

Google: Google Analytics is used to track site statistics and user demographics, interests and behavior on websites. We also use Google Search Console to help understand how our website visitors find our website and to improve our search engine optimization. Social Networks

Third-party social networks that provide interactive plug-ins or social networking features (e.g., to allow you to connect to Facebook or Google to find friends to add as connections or to "Like" a page) on FAI websites or mobile apps, may use cookies or other methods (e.g., web beacons) to gather information regarding your use of our websites and apps. The use of such information by a third party depends on the privacy policy available on that social network’s website, which we encourage you to carefully review. Such third parties may use these cookies or other tracking methods for their own purposes by relating information about your use of our site with any of your Personal Information that they may have. We may also obtain analytics information from social networks that help us measure the effectiveness of our content and advertisements on social networks (e.g., impressions and clicks).

Personal data that is processed when you apply for a FAI sporting license

When you apply for a FAI sporting licence, your National Air Sport Control (NAC) or FAI will ask you to provide personal information which is required to confirm your identity and your qualification to participate in FAI events and to enable them to contact you with information concerning FAI matters.  The information includes the following elements:

  • Name
  • Birthdate
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Country of residence
  • Mailing address
  • e-mail address
  • phone number
     
Categories of recipients of personal data of the sporting licence database

The following information may be disclosed by FAI to the FAI event organizers, Jury presidents and Jury members, FAI Controllers and other persons with a task of managing the FAI event:

  • NAC licence number
  • Issuing date

Purposes and legal grounds (sporting licences):

(a) FAI and/or the event organizer processes your information to be able to verify your identity and your eligibility to participate in FAI sporting events. The legal ground for processing your information for this purpose is based on FAI’s NACs legitimate interest in controlling sporting licences and events.

(b) FAI also processes your information for the purpose of communicating about FAI matters with you and FAI officials. The legal ground for processing your information for these purposes is FAI’s legitimate interest in performing functions described in the FAI Statues, By Laws and Sporting Codes.

Personal data that is processed when you apply for international record, FAI badge or diploma or attend in FAI activities

When you when you apply for international record, FAI badge or diploma or attend in FAI activities, FAI will ask you to provide personal information which is required to process your application or participation and to contact you with information concerning FAI matters.  The information includes the following elements:

  • Nationality
  • Birthdate
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  • Fax
  • Skype name
  • Postal address

The following information may be disclosed by FAI to its officials to fulfill their functions as officials:

Purposes and legal grounds (other data):

(a) FAI processes your information to be able to verify your identity and to record your participation in FAI activities and your international records, badges and diplomas. The legal ground for processing your information for this purpose is based on FAI’s legitimate interest in  performing functions described in the FAI Statues, By Laws and Sporting Codes.

(b) FAI also processes your information for the purpose of communicating about FAI matters with you and FAI officials. The legal ground for processing your information for these purposes is FAI’s legitimate interest in performing functions described in the FAI Statues, By Laws and Sporting Codes.

Transfer of Personal Data

FAI is a global federation. To offer FAI’s services, we may need to transfer your personal data to a National Air Sport Control (NAC) or event organizer in other countries. 

When your personal information is added to FAI’s databases your personal data will be stored on FAI’s servers in Switzerland or the European Union. Personal data regarding individuals who reside in a country in the European Economic Area or in Switzerland is controlled by FAI and/or the NACs.

All FAI member organizations, event organizers and volunteers are required to follow the privacy practices set forth in this Privacy Statement.

Other disclosures

We may disclose personal data about you to others:

(a) if we have your valid consent to do so;

(b) to comply with a valid subpoena, legal order, court order, legal process, or other legal obligation;

(c) to enforce any of our terms and conditions or policies; or

(d) as necessary to pursue available legal remedies or defend legal claims; or

(e) to fulfill our obligations described in our Statutes, By Laws and Sporting Codes.

We may also transfer your personal data to an affiliate, a subsidiary or a third party in the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of FAI’s business, assets or stock, including, without limitation, in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceeding, provided that any such entity that we transfer personal data to will not be permitted to process your personal data other than as described in this Privacy Policy without providing you notice and, if required by applicable laws, obtaining your consent.

Children

We require persons under the age of 16 to provide a consent from their guardians to store and process personal data. This consent must be issued in writing and contain the signature of the guardian. Persons under 16 who have not provided the consent, will be removed from the databases. This might result in them not being able to compete in FAI sanctioned Category 1 events or attend other FAI activities.

Retention of Personal Data

One of FAI responsibilities is to retain air sport history and keep records of its actions. Because of this, the data stored in our sporting licence database, International records database, events database and other functional databases will not be automatically deleted.

Any possible data which is not needed for these purposes will be deleted as soon as it is no longer needed.

Your Rights

If you reside in the European Union, you have the right under the General Data Protection Regulation to request from FAI access to and rectification or erasure of your personal data, data portability, restriction of processing of your personal data, the right to object to processing of your personal data, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you reside outside of the European Union, you may have similar rights under your local laws.

Please note that exercising the right to limit the use the data, might result in not being able to compete in FAI sanctioned events or attend other FAI activities.
